The Challenge
Oaktown Jazz doesn’t just teach music—it changes lives. But to funders and potential students, that wasn’t always clear. They needed a video that showed the real impact of jazz education: the confidence, the creativity, the careers it sparks.
They came to Goldilocks Studios looking for a film that could:
Make their mission tangible for grant funders.
Inspire donors to invest in the next generation of musicians.
Help recruit students who might not see themselves in jazz yet.
How do you show
music
changing lives?
Our Approach
We skipped the usual talking heads. No program directors. No scripted pitches.
Instead, we put the camera on five youth mentors—former students who grew up at Oaktown Jazz and were now paid teachers. Their voices told the real story:
How improvisation builds confidence beyond music.
The power of being heard in a world that too often ignores you.
Why jazz is more than an art form—it’s a way to find your voice.
The film blended intimate storytelling with the energy of live performance, making the impact of Oaktown Jazz impossible to ignore.

The Results
This video is now everywhere. It’s part of Oaktown Jazz’s fundraising, their outreach, and their recruitment. But more than that, it’s changed how they talk about themselves.
Today, their team speaks about their mission with more clarity and power—because they’ve seen it in action. The video didn’t just tell their story. It helped them own it.
